π How to Check Your Status Online
Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status
Open srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status on your phone or computer. This is the only official SASSA status portal - do not use any other website.
Enter your 13-digit ID number
Type your South African ID number exactly as it appears on your green ID book or smart ID card. Do not add spaces or dashes.
Enter your mobile number
Use the exact mobile number you entered when you applied for the SRD grant. If you've changed numbers, your status may not appear - call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 to update it.
Read your status result
Your status will display for the current month. It will show Approved (with a payment date), Pending, or Declined (with a reason code). See the guide below to understand exactly what each status means.

π¬ Things I've Learned Checking SASSA Status
I've spent a lot of time on the SASSA SRD portal - testing it and helping readers troubleshoot. A few things that might save you frustration:
The portal goes down. A lot. End of month - when most people are checking - is when it's under the most strain. If you get an error or the page won't load, it's almost always a temporary outage, not a problem with your application. The USSD code (*120*3210#) works even when the website is down because it runs on the mobile network, not the internet.
"Approved" doesn't always mean paid yet. Your status can show "Approved" while the actual payment is still being processed. If it's been more than 5 working days since your payment date and nothing has arrived, check your banking details - an expired or incorrect account number is the most common cause of approved-but-not-received payments.
Status changes after the 15th. If your status is still "Pending" on the 1st of the month, don't panic. SASSA runs its means test in batches, and many applications aren't resolved until the 15thβ20th. Checking daily in the first week is usually pointless - mid-month is when the useful information appears.
WhatsApp is often faster than the website. I've found the WhatsApp check (send "SASSA" to 082 046 8553) is more reliable when the main portal is slow. It's also free on most SA networks. Worth saving as a backup.
β Frequently Asked Questions
-
A blank result usually means the ID number or phone number you entered doesn't match what's on your SASSA application. Double-check both. If you've changed your phone number since applying, the old number is still the one linked to your application - call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 to update it.
-
Yes, completely normal. SASSA re-checks your eligibility every single month independently. Pending means they haven't finished checking yet - it doesn't mean you've been declined. Most Pending statuses resolve to Approved within 2β3 weeks of the month starting.
-
If your status has been Pending for more than 25 days in a single month, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit a SASSA office. Bring your ID. A SASSA official can see more detail than the online portal shows and can flag any issues with your application.
-
Yes, but you need their exact ID number and the phone number linked to their application. The portal doesn't require any login - just these two pieces of information. Be aware that checking on behalf of someone else without their knowledge may be a privacy concern.
-
Check the payment date shown alongside your Approved status. Payment is processed on that specific date and may take 1β2 banking days to appear in your account. If 3 days have passed after your payment date and you still haven't received it, check your banking details are correct and call 0800 60 10 11.
