๐Ÿ’ฌ
WhatsApp (Official)
Works with data only ยท Green verified tick
082 046 8553

  2. Send the word Hi or SASSA to start
  3. Select Balance or My Grant from the menu
  4. Follow the prompts โ€” you may need your ID number

๐Ÿฆ
Bank App or Internet Banking
If grant is paid into a bank account
  1. Open your bank's app (Capitec, FNB, Absa, Standard Bank, etc.)
  2. Log in with your PIN or biometrics
  3. View your account balance โ€” your SASSA payment will appear as a deposit labelled SASSA
  4. Check your transaction history to confirm when the deposit arrived
โœ… Most reliable if your grant goes to a bank account. Capitec's app also has a USSD backup: *120*3279#
๐Ÿง
ATM Balance Enquiry
Uses your card ยท Small fee may apply
  1. Insert your bank card or SASSA/Post Office card
  2. Enter your PIN
  3. Select Balance Enquiry from the menu

๐Ÿ“ฎ
Post Office (SAPO)
For Post Office payment recipients
  1. Visit your nearest Post Office with your SA ID document
  2. Ask the teller to check your SASSA balance
  3. They will confirm whether your payment is available for collection
  4. Collect your grant cash at the same time if it is available

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions

  • A balance of R0 means your grant has not yet been deposited for this month, or it has already been withdrawn. Check your status at srd.sassa.gov.za โ€” if it shows Approved with a payment date in the future, your money will arrive on that date. If it shows Declined, see our Declined guide.
  • SRD R370 payments are made between the 24th and 30th of each month, with each recipient assigned a specific date based on their ID number. Your exact payment date is shown on the SASSA status portal. See our full payment dates guide for the March 2026 schedule.
  • This usually means the mobile number you used doesn't match the number on your SASSA application, or your banking details may not be verified yet. Try using the USSD method with the exact number you used when applying. If still not working, call 0800 60 10 11 to verify what number is on your account.
  • You cannot check another person's SASSA balance โ€” the USSD and WhatsApp methods require the specific phone number and ID linked to that account. Each person needs to check their own balance using their own phone and ID. If you need to assist a family member, be present with their phone and ID.
