SassaHelp is an independent South African information site I built to make SASSA and UIF easier to understand for the millions of people who depend on these grants. My name is Paul Geddes - you can find me on LinkedIn.
SassaHelp.co.za is not affiliated with SASSA, the Department of Social Development, or any South African government department. We are a private information website. For official applications, status checks and grant management, always use srd.sassa.gov.za.
I started SassaHelp after watching people around me - family members, neighbours, people I knew - struggle to understand why their SASSA application was declined or why their grant hadn't arrived. The official websites go down at the worst moments. The SASSA call centre is often impossible to get through. And the information that does exist is buried in government jargon.
I'm not a lawyer or a social worker. What I am is someone who has spent a lot of time reading the legislation, tracking policy changes, and testing what the SASSA portal actually does when you interact with it. I've turned that into plain-language guides that work on a small phone screen with limited data.
Every guide is written and reviewed by me. I update the content when SASSA announces changes - usually within 24–48 hours. If I get something wrong, I want to know: use the contact form and I'll fix it.
All content on this site is completely free. SassaHelp is funded through display advertising (Google AdSense). When you visit a page, you may see ads from Google's network - these are how I cover hosting, domain, and the time it takes to keep the guides updated.
I do not sell your data. Advertisers have no say in what I write. I do not accept sponsored content or paid placements. If a guide recommends something, it's because it's genuinely the best option, not because someone paid for it.
I never ask for your ID number, banking details, or any payment. If you see anything claiming to be SassaHelp that asks for these, it is a scam - please report it to SAPS.
We update our content as soon as SASSA announces changes. Grant amounts, payment dates and policy changes are reflected within 24–48 hours of official announcement. We always cite official SASSA and government sources.
If you spot an error or outdated information, please contact us and we will review it promptly.
Paul Geddes - Founder, SassaHelp.co.za
I'm the founder and only editor of SassaHelp. I research and write all the guides here, drawing on official SASSA documentation, Government Gazette notices, and Department of Social Development policy updates. When I'm uncertain about something, I say so - and I always link to the official source. My focus is on making complex government processes understandable to first-time applicants, especially people reading on a phone with limited data.
Important: I am not a lawyer or a social worker. For complex situations - disputed appeals, disability medical assessments, or legal challenges - I always recommend getting proper help from a registered organisation like Black Sash, who provide free legal advice to grant recipients.
Every guide on SassaHelp.co.za follows the same process:
Every guide on this site follows the same process: start with the official source, cross-reference it, then rewrite it in plain South African English. I don't publish something until I've read the actual legislation or SASSA announcement, not just a summary of it.
Pages covering payment dates or grant amounts are reviewed monthly. Policy pages are reviewed whenever SASSA makes an announcement. If a page is out of date, the "Updated" date at the top will reflect when it was last checked - not just the last time I changed a word.
