This is the most frustrating thing, watching your SASSA Status regularly and finding that it is not moving anywhere from “Pending”. Some of my friends also faced the same issue, but luckily, they managed to fix this issue.

After their experience, I have learnt the fixes one can follow to fix the SASSA Status Pending problem and have their application approved. In this article, I will be sharing everything you need to know about the SASSA Pending Status and how to fix it. Let’s get started!

What Does SASSA Status “Pending” Mean?

The “SASSA Status Pending” simply means that your application has been submitted successfully but is still under process and reviewed by the SASSA team for verifying your documents and eligibility. Pending means, it is not approved or rejected by SASSA.

When your application is submitted to SASSA, they will start their review process which includes checking all the information and documents provided in the application form against various databases to check whether you are eligible or not.

There are three kinds of status a application can receive, Approved, Pending and Rejected. Below you can learn what all three statues mean:

Approved StatusSASSA will review your application and find that you are eligible for receiving a grant then they approve your application. The application status will become “Approved” from Pending.
Pending StatusPending Status means, that your application has been submitted but SASSA is still verifying your documents and eligibility criteria. If the status is stuck in pending for a long, that means there might be some problem.
Rejected StatusDuring the review, if SASSA finds that you are not eligible for the grant then your application status will be changed to Rejected.

However, they are is no time set when your SASSA application will complete the processing, it can take anywhere from a few days to weeks and months. This is because of the high volume of applications, there are currently 26 million beneficiaries enrolled in SASSA grants, and millions of applications are getting every month.

There is another reason for your SASSA status “pending”, it could be because SASSA is unable to verify your income and eligibility for the grants. So for that reason, they are taking more than usual.

How To Fix Your SASSA Status From Pending To Approved?

If you are SASSA application is taking too long into “Pending” status, you can try these fixes to get it approved:

1. Contact SASSA

Contacting SASSA to get help on this matter, would be the best and most recommended fix you can try, you can contact SASSA through the following modes:

  • Visit the nearest SASSA office: Find the nearest SASSA office in your locality, you can search “SASSA office near me” on Google to locate the nearest office. Also, check their operating hours so you can plan your visit. Meet their customer support staff and explain this problem, they will provide all possible fixes.
  • Call SASSA’s Helpline Number: Call SASSA’s toll-free helpline number at 0800 601 011 to seek help in this case, you can explain your issue to their representative and they will provide you with a solution to fix this problem.
  • Email SASSA: You can also drop SASSA an email at their email address grantenquiries@sassa.gov.za, explain your matter and wait for their response. This method can take longer than the above two.

2. Update Your Application

Again check your application and see if there’s anything left to be shared, or if any additional details can be provided to make this process faster. Add some more supporting documents that show you are eligible for receiving a grant from SASSA. Ensure everything is good and updated, then Submit the application again.

3. Keep Patience And Wait For Response

Due to the high volume of applications, there might be some delay in processing new applications, which is quite common. So, keep patience and wait for their confirmation. You should keep checking your SASSA application status regularly to get updates.

4. Follow Up

If your application is still processing, and it’s been more than 90 days, then contact the SASSA helpline or visit the office for a follow-up on your application status and ask them why it is taking so long.

5. Consider Reapplication or Appeal

If your application gets declined after staying in pending status for so long, you can reapply for the grant or file an appeal. Provide all the information and documents, (up-to-date) to make your eligibility strong this time.

How Long Will It Take To Be Approved?

However, there is no fixed timeframe set for the SASSA application processing, it can vary from person to person. Some applications get approved easily within some weeks and on the other takes months to get approved.

There will be 90 90-day waiting period at last if your application does not get approved or rejected within 90 days of the submission date. Then, there is something wrong so you need to take care. Application can take longer than 90 days if there are high volume of applications and SASSA is struggling to verify your income and assets.
