What Documents Required for SASSA Child Grant?

1. Valid South African ID Card

Provide a scanned copy of your original valid South African ID card to verify your identity and residency in South Africa. Ensure the document is visible and readable before attaching it to your Child Grant application form.

The document must be certified by the Commissioner of Oaths and must have a certification stamp and signature, not more than three months old.

2. Your Child’s ID or Birth Certificate

To receive the SASSA Child Grant, you will need to provide your children’s birth certificate. This document is required to prove your child’s age, date of birth, and identity.

This is the most important document you need to provide for the Child Grant application process. If there is no birth certificate available, you can provide any other certified child identity proof available.

3. Proof of Marriage

SASSA needs to check your marital status, you can provide your marriage certificate as proof here. If you are divorced, then provide a clear and readable copy of your final divorce decree.

If widowed, provide your spouse’s death certificate as proof. Single and never-married persons don’t need to provide any document to prove their marital status.

4. Income Proof

SASSA Grants are provided to low-income individuals and families having financial hardship, and unable to support their basic expenses. To become eligible for the Child Support Grant, you will be required to provide your income proof, i.e. payslips, bank statements, or any other financial document showing your current income.

5. Affidavit Attesting to No Income

If having no income, then you need to provide an affidavit that shares you are currently having no income. This will increase your eligibility for the SASSA Child Support Grant. But make sure that the affidavit should be signed in front of the Commissioner of Oaths.

6. Document Proving You as the Child’s Primary Caregiver

This document will prove you, as the child’s primary caregiver. This can be an affidavit from yourself or someone who knows your situation well. SASSA may also verify that the child is living with you or you are the responsible for child’s financial support.

7. Bank Statement

The bank Statement will not only show your current financial condition but also help you to receive your grant payments directly into your bank account.
