Documents Required for SASSA Card Renewal 2024

Your SASSA Card renewal process can not be completed without the required documents. These documents are required to ensure that you are the real owner of the card and an eligible beneficiary of the SASSA Grant. The following are the documents required for SASSA Card Renewal:

1. Valid South African ID Card

Your South African ID Card is a very crucial document, it verifies your identity. Don’t forget to bring your original SA ID Card when visiting the SASSA office to renew your card.

Their staff will need this document to ensure that the card belongs to the right person and you are the original owner.

If you are an asylum seeker and special permit holder, then bring your Passport instead of a South African ID card for identity verification.

2. Old SASSA Card

Well, it is not mandatory, but always recommended to carry your expired SASSA Card if available. This will make your process smooth and easy.

But if your expired card is lost or missing, don’t worry you can still renew your card without needing it.

3. Proof of Residence

You must be a South African resident to be eligible for the SASSA grant and card. Hence, you need to verify your current residence through proof of residence.

It could be anything that proves your residence, such as a Utility bill, Bank Statement, Municipal Account Statement etc.

4. Police Report Copy (for SASSA Lost Card only)

If your SASSA Card has been stolen or lost, then the first thing you should do is lodge a police report at your nearest Police Station.

They will give you a document (FIR Copy), and bring that document to the SASSA Office when visiting them for card renewal.

This document will prove that your card has been stolen or lost and you need a new card (replacement).
